A plain answer to “what does this job pay here?”

CitySalaryData exists to answer one question well: what a given occupation actually pays in a given part of the United States, according to the official statistics. The answer leads with the median, shows the full percentile spread, names the exact BLS area it describes, and links to the source. No career-advice filler, no “estimated” numbers of unknown origin.

Principles

• One official source. Every figure is a BLS OEWS estimate (May 2025). If BLS didn’t publish it, we say “not published”.
• Honest geography. Wage areas are metro/nonmetropolitan areas and states. We always show the full official area name and never pass a metro estimate off as a city-limits figure.
• Estimates, clearly framed.These are survey estimates of area pay — not predictions of anyone’s next offer.
• No invented numbers. No interpolation, no cost-of-living or take-home-pay math, no growth forecasts, no blending with job postings.

Who runs this

CitySalaryData is an independent, individually run data product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the Bureau of Labor Statistics or any government agency. BLS publishes the data; we make it navigable.

How it’s built

A repeatable pipeline downloads the official release files, verifies checksums, validates every row (percentile ordering, suppression markers, geography labels, and more — bad data blocks publication), and generates the site. Details: Methodology and Sources. Spotted an error? Tell us.
