Geography resolution
Area definitions (metropolitan statistical areas, nonmetropolitan areas, states, territories) come from the OEWS files themselves, which follow OMB metro-area delineations. City-to-metro resolution is derived transparently from the principal city names embedded in the official area titles (for example “Atlanta” from “Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, GA”), plus a small version-controlled alias list for nicknames like “NYC” — documented in the repository (config/place-aliases.json). No commercial geocoder is used as a factual source of metro membership. Occupation synonym mapping (“RN” → Registered Nurses) is likewise a documented editorial list (config/occupation-aliases.json) targeting official SOC codes only.
